Program Your Thermostat
It may sound like common sense, but that doesn’t mean it’s not great advice! Set your thermostat to be cooler during those hours your family isn’t home. Your heating system will consume less energy and reduce the strain on your equipment.
While some thermostats can take a little study to understand all the features, smart devices like the Nest thermostat can make it as simple as using an app on your phone.
Eliminate Drafts
If there are cold drafts entering your home, it can make your heating system work that much harder to keep you comfortable. No matter whether you have a furnace or a heat pump, it doesn’t need the added stress of keeping the chill-out!
With major drafts, you may be able to feel them and locate the source rather easily. But sometimes it’s a little harder to notice that cold air is getting in and lowering the temperature! Keep your eye out for weathered or aging thresholds and seals around your windows or doors. Replace these when they don’t appear to be doing as good of a job anymore.
Look for Problems With Your Heating System
